 Did Oregon Ban e-Cigarettes?

Well… it appears they didn't. There is a ton of misrepresentation and misreporting on the situation in Oregon; but we have collected an actual statement from the Oregon Department of Justice that helps clarify. The situation only included two stores in Oregon, and two brands that were accused of misrepresenting the safety of their product.

We'll show the Oregon DOJ message about the (non) e-cigarette ban below, but we would first like to highlight a few things that we are seeing in the press.

  • Some states may be attempting to ban the sale of e-cigarettes
  • The FDA has attempted to stop the sale, or at least import, of e-cigarettes
  • The tobacco industry is throwing a fit about e-cigarettes

None of the above should be surprising to anyone. Tobacco companies make far too much money off of cancer causing, chemical-laced cigarettes, to simply roll over and let a healthy source of nicotine take over.

And let's all be real for a moment – there's a lot of money in tobacco. And where there's a lot of money, there is corporate and government corruption.

Sates don't want to lose their own millions of dollars in tobacco tax revenue, so no wonder they're jumping on board as well.

Don't be fooled. Do your research. Find a good, well documented product like Green Smoke e-cigarettes, and get yours now – before the government has their way.

Here is the legal statement offered by Oregon's DOJ:

” DOJ has not banned electronic cigarettes. We are taking action against e-cig vendors who misrepresent the safety of these products.

The UTPA prohibits deceptive promotion of any product, including electronic cigarettes. Two of the products that DOJ investigated are e-cigarettes sold by Smoking Everywhere and NJOY.

The national distributors for both products were served with official Notice that the Attorney General believes their promotion of e-cigs violates the UTPA and they were offered an opportunity to avoid litigation by agreeing not sell e-cigs in Oregon until it is determined whether these products must be approved by FDA.

If electronic cigarettes do not need to be approved by FDA, the companies would be able to resuming selling e-cigs in Oregon so long as they possess evidence to support their promotional claims. Two vendors of electronic cigarettes – TA Travel Centers and Pilot Travel Centers – already signed such agreements.

Both NJOY and SMOKING EVERYWHERE have voluntarily agreed to stop doing business in Oregon while we try to negotiate a settlement. Although DOJ is looking at a number of e-cig products, thus far, we are only taking action against NJOY and Smoking Everywhere.”

Electric cigarettes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive. Like with regular cigarettes, they are only allowed to be used by a legal adult (age depends on state). Electric cigarettes are not a medical device and are not meant to be used to quit smoking. Like regular cigarettes, electric cigarettes are not FDA approved.
